4th March 2009, Wednesday, The Straits Times: WWII Bomb Found in Construction Site

Wow, I must say that the construction workers over here are great and meticulous. They actually discovered a 50kg WWII bomb while they were digging & digging tirelessly at the site.

The policemen & soldiers came, diverted traffic, evacuated the students in Nan Hua High & NUS High school. They then effectively detonated the bomb safely. The residents who were watching the whole episode cheered and applauded. :)

September 2008 - January 2009

According to HDB's timeline, construction was supposed to begin in "mid 2008".

After anxiously waiting for a few months for some ground-breaking actions to happen, a mini exavator was finally spotted on 12 September 2008 (see 2nd photo). Ha ha.

Naming our New Home

Affected residents were consulted on the new name of our new home... 3 names were pre-selected by HDB and we had to cast a vote:

(1) ONE CLEMENTI
(2) CASA CLEMENTI
(3) CLEMENTI RESIDENCES

I am a simple person, hence, I have voted for ONE CLEMENTI as I thought it's a simple enough name for older folks to remember and to pronounce. Probably easier for taxi uncles to remember in future as well. :)

The voting results was subsequently mailed to us.
Majority of the residents had voted for CASA CLEMENTI.

* One Clementi 39%
* Casa Clementi 43%
* Clementi Residences 18%

In Spanish, "Casa" means "House or Home".
Hence "CASA CLEMENTI" can literally be translated to "Our Home in Clementi".
It's still a pretty nice name lah. :p

Clementi Ave 1 identified for en bloc redevelopment scheme
By Jacqueline Seng, Channel NewsAsia Posted: 28 June 2007 1820 hrs

SINGAPORE : Seven blocks in Clementi Avenue 1 have been identified for the Selective En bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS). The 30-year-old site consists of over 1,100 flats. The blocks involved are 401 to 404 and 407 to 409. Blocks 405 and 406 are rental blocks and these will be cleared to facilitate the redevelopment of other blocks. The Housing Development Board (HDB) will build some 1,600 new replacement flats near the Clementi town centre to rehouse the flat owners. Eligible tenants will also be offered relocation benefits. The SERS plan also involves nine shops, one of which is a rental shop at Block 407, as well as a rental kiosk at Block 402. HDB says these shop owners and lessees will receive compensation based on the prevailing market value. - CNA /ls
